The Luso-Brazilian musician, poet, and writer Luca Argel has stood out for his exploration of the roots of samba and Portugal’s colonial legacy. With the album Samba de Guerrilha (2021), he rescued the political history of samba through a multidisciplinary show that continues to tour.
A resident of Portugal for over a decade, Luca has cultivated impactful artistic collaborations with Ana Deus, DJ Keso, the Cante Alentejano Choir of the Orfeão do Porto, A Garota Não, and Filipe Sambado (Sol em Gémeos). In 2023, he released Sabina, an album inspired by Candomblé and Brazilian history, reflecting on racism and inequality.
On stage, he blends Afro-Brazilian sounds with rock, funk, and samba—always infused with poetry and social awareness. In 2024, he presented Visita alongside pianist Pri Azevedo, in an intimate format. In 2025, he participated in the Festival da Canção with Quem Foi?, a song about the immigrant experience.
Author of several books, he recently published Meigo Energúmeno, a book and EP offering an anti-misogynistic reading of Vinicius de Moraes’ work. His concerts are intense, poetic, and unforgettable.
