“FUNK, BODY AND COUNTERCULTURE” is a theoretical and practical workshop that looks at the body as a political, aesthetic, and poetic territory. Between funk, counterculture and dissident experiences, we open a space to question norms and create our own narratives.

Over two to three hours, we’ll dive into topics like politics and nudity, countersexuality, and the place of sapphic funk in the conversation between machismo, classicism, counterculture, and contemporaneity. In the practical part, we’ll guide the body into an intuitive, free twerk: warm up, loosen the pelvis, “free the butt,” twerk. Not as a dance technique, but as a gesture of emancipation.

MARIEH is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, and visual artist in the independent funk scene, with strong ties to LGBTQIAP+ culture. In 2024, she went on a European tour and launched a bold project in São Paulo with KondZilla. This September returns to Europe and will perform at Casa Capitão the workshop “Funk, Body and Counterculture”.
