Casa Capitão is a cultural space in Beato, Lisbon. With continuous and multidisciplinary programming, it’s a space for creation, experimentation, and sharing that promotes the intersection of contemporary expressions.

We believe in culture as action, critical and collective force. A place of freedom and disobedience, where diverse voices, experiences, and worldviews meet and dialogue. We take a clear stance against all forms of oppression. In our house, there is no room for xenophobic, racist, sexist, LGBTphobic, or discriminatory speech. We welcome those who create and those who participate. We value artistic freedom, critical thinking, attentive listening, and working together. We program culture with awareness, commitment, and a sense of future.

Casa Capitão was born in 2020 as a cultural pop-up, in a spontaneous reaction during the pandemic. Over two summers (2020 and 2021), the space hosted more than 600 activities — including concerts, DJ sets, exhibitions, markets, performances, workshops, and talks. This temporary impulse gave way to a vision for the future: In 2022, we began renovation works to give shape to an ongoing cultural project, conceived over the last five years.

Casa Capitão hosts cultural brands with their own identity. These are autonomous curatorial programs that explore specific areas of contemporary creation, in line with the House’s values and mission. Each one proposes a continuous programming line, with thematic focus, its own language, and direct relationship with diverse audiences.

THE BOOK AS A STARTING POINT. O Quiosque is a space with its own programming that takes books and critical thinking as the starting point for artistic and disciplinary intersections. It explores written and spoken words in dialogue with other practices, from music to performing arts, from exhibitions to workshops, promoting debate, experimentation, and direct interaction with readers, authors, creators, and other audiences.

MUSIC AS A MEETING POINT. Baile is a programming space focused on music and dance as cultural practices rooted in the city. Based on popular and urban genres, it explores the sounds that shape Lisbon's musical identity and promotes the creation of collective experiences on the dance floor.

GASTRONOMY AS A CULTURAL PRACTICE. Mesa is a program that explores gastronomy as a cultural and sharing practice. Focusing on encounters between chefs, creators, and the public, it promotes a creative and interdisciplinary approach to food, with cultural programming that stems from the diversity of flavors and stories that feed our culture.
